In India, a 100-year-old cooperative bank, founded by Jayachamarajendra Wodeyar, the King of Mysore, stands as a symbol of tradition, community, and support for agriculture. With 25 branches across the state, the bank offers crucial financial services such as loans and fixed deposits, especially for farmers. However, as time went on, the bank faced new challenges.

The Challenge

Despite its long history and extensive network, the bank continued to use outdated methods to manage its records. All customer, loan, and fixed deposit information was maintained in physical account books. While this method worked for many years, it eventually led to significant problems.

The Problem

Using manual records resulted in several major issues:

  1. Their current process of managing accounts, loans, fixed deposits were slow and inefficient. Accessing and processing information took a lot of time, causing delays.
  2. Due to storing of physical copies of the accounts in the store room took space and needed more care towards maintenance. These physical records could be lost, damaged, or misplaced, posing a significant risk.
  3. It was hard for the staff to keep accurate records, often it has led to humar errors. Keeping everything up-to-date was challenging, leading to mistakes in account statements.
  4. There were operational challenges, and it was likely to increase more, as more and more customers were getting onboarded. Managing customers and services manually required more staff, increasing costs and workload.
  5. Limited growth due to lack of technical advancements implemented for the smoother operation of the bank. It was difficult to expand and introduce modern banking services with the old system.

The bank needed a new way to manage its records that would work for all its branches and allow real-time information access.

Our Solution

After almost 100 years of using old methods, the bank decided to change. We created a specialised software solution that transformed the bank's operations.

The Transformation

The new software allowed the bank to:

  1. Now, they could easily manage the customer's accounts. All branches could manage the data smoothly, securely, as a result, they obtained more statistical insights about their customers and their assets and liabilities.
  2. Handling customer records was always difficult for them. Now, with the new software, they could access the customer's records safe and secure way. Managing the FD Interest payments and Loan recollection schedules became easier.
  3. They obtained real-time information about the accounts maintained in the branches. It improved transperancy of the accounts and their reports, reducing the chances of misrepresenting of accounts and reports to the head office. All branches could access information instantly, improving decision-making and services.

This digital change not only made operations faster and more efficient but also preserved the bank's heritage while adopting modern practices. It ensured the bank could continue supporting Karnataka’s farming community with the best financial services.

The story of this 100-year-old cooperative bank moving from old methods to digital innovation demonstrates resilience and commitment to its community. As it looks to the future, the bank remains a vital part of Karnataka’s agricultural landscape, ready to serve for many more years.
